Kiki's Trial in Belgium: Day 4

Day 4

Today was an off day for us.  We trained lightly in the morning to get our legs moving from yesterdays game.  The training involved a good long warm up and then some crossbar challenges.  Then we finished with a little bit of light passing and shooting drills to get the goalies involved.  The group of guys planned trip to Antwerp (30 minutes away).  Antwerp is one of the major cities in Belgium, it and  Brussels are like the two biggest cities.  Apart from those two cities, there is a lot a land and small villages that make up the rest of the small country.  I like that it is so small because it makes it easier to get around to different cities but I’m sure if I stayed here long enough, I would realize that you could run out of things to do in Belgium.  Still, it is a calm nice place that I would love to spend a year or two living in.  Antwerp was cool, the architecture was beautiful and so different than what we are used to at home.  People here are nice when being spoken to but pretty quiet otherwise and stick to themselves.  Everyone (adults, kids, girls, boys) gets around on bikes, big cruiser bikes or they walk.  People here seem fit and it makes sense because everything traveling wise is on the move.  There is a train that departs certain bigger villages and everyone rides bus and bikes to these stations and then take the train to the major cities.  I spent about 40 Euro today on lunch, chocolate, bus and train tickets.  That is close to 60 American dollars.  Things are much more expensive here and the American dollar isn’t worth but about ¾ the Euro.  I couldn’t leave Belgium without trying a Belgium waffle so I had to buy one of those too.  There are Waffle stands all over the place, kind of like a corndog stand or something.  Everywhere people are walking around eating chocolate covered waffles for a snack, its pretty funny.   Tomorrow we play another Premier League team but I forget the name.  I keep trying to spell these teams names and make mistakes, but I’ll let you know tomorrow.  Lets hope that we can do a little bit better as a team tomorrow but I don’t know how it will go.  I know how I’ll do though.  Talk to you soon.  -Kiki
