Day 7

 

The game was incredible.  17,000 fans in a perfect soccer specific stadium.  All seats full.  The crowd I have to admit could learn a thing or two from the Timbers Army though.  They had one section that was active and singing all game but not as big as the Army.  Then again, every seat other than that was full so it was pretty amazing.  The atmosphere was loud but not corny.  American teams should come study how to market a soccer game and make it intense and loud without the same old corny songs and announcers.  The field was perfect, it seemed like anyone could step on and do the same job their players were doing.  Twenty made things look easy.  The ball was kept by them about 75% of the time.  Both teams played in a 4-3-3 and its popular around here.  Twenty played it pretty much to perfection against a struggling Willem team.  Willem, played better in the second half but to be honest, they are a team that is full of players that are solid but not out of this world.  To see a game for myself in an environment like that was such a good lesson.  They both played very tactically and patient attacking only during the right times or when one or two players were eliminated with a dribble or pass in the right area.  Steve McLaren former English national team coach was coach of Twenty which I thought was funny because they did not play like a traditional English team.
